The Canary Isla
nds are now promoting birdwatching tourism as a complementary activity for tourists visiting the archipelago. According to the most recent studies there are about 90 species of bird nesting throughout the Canary Islands including 12 new species. This number makes it the richest avifauna of all the Macaronesian archipelagos highlighting its large number of endemic and migrant species.
