Gomera Walking

Gomera WalkingAs I sat down to write this last night it was barely 8 PM and I had to switch on my desk light to see what I was doing....a cogent reminder not only that my eyesight is getting worse but that the summer is over and the evenings are rapidly drawing in!! Time to think seriously about plans for La Gomera and ournew winter walking season which will open on 9th November....two months away.Reports from La Gomera tell me that it has been an unusually busy summer with tourist numbers well up despite Brexit shock and a weakening of the £Sterling exchange. The main driver appears to be security concerns and unease over some other sun destinations and as this is likely to continue throughout the coming winter months there could be problems sourcing accommodation and low cost flights....so if you''re thinking about booking with us for some winter walking please do so now to avoid disappointment. We still do have availability most weeks which you can check by clicking here. If you see a week that takes your fancy but can''t find suitable flights...then what about flying in a day early and staying over in Tenerife. We have a very good deal with Diamond Resorts in San Miguel which allows us to offer a spacious one bedroom self-catering apartment for €70 and we will pick you up there the next morning to join the rest of the group at no additional charge. For Irish clients this allows you to fly in from Dublin with Aer Lingus on a Tuesday evening and return with Ryanair on a Wednesday.Very good news for solo travellers....we still have a number of weeks in our Premium Package where the Hotel Jardin Tecina have agreed to waive their normal single occupancy premium. Check availability here.I now have a UK mobile phone number and am available on 079 55031646 or This email address is being protected from spambots. October 2015 Newsletter

Gomera WalkingOur summer finally arrived this past week! A whole week of warm sunny weather...better than any we had in June, July or August and now it's October! Only two more weeks until Paddy & I head back down to La Gomera to get ready for our 6th walking season which will begin with the first group arriving 18th November although we do have some day walk guests booked in before that.

Bookings for 2015-2016 season are well ahead of previous years and at time of writing we are fully booked for November/December and limited availability remaining in January and February with only 1 place remaining open in March. Next available week for booking is 8-15 January. The good news is that Spring usually comes early in La Gomera with January to March a good time to come for those interested in seeing the Island at it's greenest and most colourful. Daytime temperatures around Playa de Santiago normally are in the 20's although it can be a wee bit cooler at higher elevations where the best walking is!

Due to demand we added another week from 20-27 February and we still have places available if you're interested.

Gomera WalkingAll our prices are in € so UK customers with £Sterling remaining strong against the € are finding extremely good value this season. As of this morning our holidays work out at approximately £630/£450 for Premium/Popular Pkgs respectively. You can find full details on our website or go directly to our on-line booking form here

Low cost flights are available from many UK and Irish cities to Tenerife with Ryanair, Easyjet, Monarch and others. If you need help selecting your flights This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. If you want to come a few days earlier we can help arrange very good value accommodation with Diamond Resorts in Tenerife (€70 per night per couple sharing) and then pick you up to join the group on our scheduled date for transfer to La Gomera.

What's new....

On our Premium Package, based in the luxury 4-star Hotel Jardin Tecina, we haveswitched to B&B as standard for maximum flexibility and reduced our rate to €850 per person sharing. This allows you to go out for dinner to any of the lovely little local restaurants which are all reasonably good and relatively inexpensive (~ €20 - €25 including wine). However if you feel like a night in the hotel then you can purchase dinner in the buffet restaurant at the special price of €18.50 or indeed if you want to upgrade to half-board and eat in the hotel every night you can do so for an additional payment of €98 (just select this option our booking form).

Our Popular Package remains unchanged at €599 and we will continue to use the delightful self-catering apartments in Bellavista where you will be looked after by Elena and Liz who did such a great job for us last year.

August 2015 Newsletter

In response to increased demand we have added another week 20-27 Feb 2016 to our winter 2015-16 schedule. This is now open for booking.

What a summer!

Don't know what it's been like in your part of the world but in Donegal it has been atrocious....pretty much since our return in May it has been wet, windy and so, so cold. We had to put the central heating back on in July which was a first!
Anyway surely August will be better and in any event not long now until our season opens in La Gomera where hopefully the weather will be somewhat kinder.

Feel like you need an escape before Christmas.... we still have a small number of places available in November 18-25 (4 x places) and December 9-16 (1 x place). See details of our schedule here.

Sterling remains very strong and we have a lot of UK customers taking advantage of the exchange rate to lock in their holidays now As of this morning our Popular Package would work out around £420 while our Premium Package  stands around £600! In previous years we offered customers the option of paying in £STG but this season due to the exchange volatility we can only accept €Euro. However if you have a £Stg bank account you can avail of current rate of exchange by paying for your holiday in total with credit or debit card in €. Your card issuer will make the exchange at current rates and your account will be billed in £Stg.

Good news for solo travellers:
We still have a very few places on our Premium Package for solo travellers..NO PREMIUM...
9-16 Dec 2015 1 x place left
9-16 Mar 2016  2 x places left

This means a saving of €105 for long-suffering solo travellers booking our Premium Package!

Irish Clients:
Since Ryanair changed their schedule out of Dublin and now have afternoon flights, the times don't work for our transfers as arrival is too late for the last ferry to La Gomera. Best way to travel now is Aer Lingus on a Tuesday afternoon arriving approx 18:30 PM and stay the night in San Miguel, Tenerife where we can arrange very nice accommodation at €70 per couple. We will then pick you up next morning to join the group for onward transfer to La Gomera. Going back you can book on Ryanair for Wednesday evening getting into Dublin around midnight. Right now the above combination of flights works out around under €200 return in February.

July 2015 Newsletter

Bookings for our new season which opens on 18th November continue apace although we still have some availability for most weeks.

Good news for UK clients:
Many of our UK customers are  locking in their bookings right now to take advantage of the historically high £STG exchange rates arising from Euro uncertainty in the on-going Greek monetary crisis. As of this morning our Popular Package would work out around £430 while our Premium Package  is a little over £600!

Very good news for solo travellers:
The Hotel Jardin Tecina have agreed to drop their single occupancy premium (SOP) for three of our scheduled weeks...
9-16 Dec 2015
9-16 Mar 2016
30 Mar - 6 Apr 2016.

New Schedule for Season 2015-2016

Just posted our new schedule on the website and bookings are now open for winter 2015-2016.Gomera WalkingWe plan to start the season on 18th November 2015 and run through to 6th April 2016. Last year we booked every place we had available and regrettably had to disappoint several of our clients who left it late to book....so even though we've added some extra weeks going forward our advice still is book early so you can be sure of getting the week you want.

What's new....on our Premium Package, based in the luxury 4-star Hotel Jardin Tecina, we haveswitched to B&B as standard for maximum flexibility and reduced our rate to €850 per person sharing. This season we want to welcome new leaders Sean Mullan and Michael McGarrigle who will be joining our little team for some of the scheduled weeks to help preserve my poor old knees for a little longer and hopefully bring some new stories for our returning guests! We will also continue to offer our services to assist self-guided walkers and non-walkers who want help in arranging transfers, ferries and accommodation in La Gomera.

On a separate note for anyone who is interested in Walking Holidays in Ireland (off the beaten track...so to speak) in the summertime we are pleased to recommend two companies that we have developed close relationship with:-Sean Mullan whom we've talked about before (and works with us in La Gomera part-time) runs "Walking & Talking in Ireland" up in the wild Northwest of Donegal and the Antrim coast
and
Gerry Greensmyth of "Croagh Patrick Walking Tours" based in Westport. In business since 1992 Gerry is probably one of the most experienced walking guides in the country offering a combination of forest trails, mountain paths, coastal track on the Wild Atlantic Way and famine roads in Mayo and Connemara.

Hope everyone has a great summer and that your plans for next autumn/winter will include a trip to La Gomera. Please don't hesitate to contact me if we can help with any information.
